Bay Interior Specialists

The origins of Bay Interior Specialists began in 1963. The company was sold to David Martin as Tauranga Plasterers Limited in 1974 where it stayed under his directorship until 2010 when the mantle of responsibility was passed to Stuart Phelps, ensuring that it remained a family business.

We have been serving the Tauranga, Bay of Plenty and outer regions, providing quality finishing and professionalism in the installation and plastering of fibrous plaster and plasterboard systems through our strong team of certified tradesmen for close to 60 years.

Over the past decade we have diversified our professional services to provide ceiling grid installation, plasterboard fixing, interior and exterior painting and decorative Venetian Plaster and Avista paint systems. With this diverse offering, the brand Bay Interior Specialists was born.

Our overriding desire is to create quality people who provide extraordinary results. Therefore, we are proud to be a company that trains apprentices to become quality tradespeople. This is evident in our diverse gender, age and ethnic workforce.

Working with decorative fibrous plaster requires meticulous attention to detail and highly skilled craftsmanship. There are members of our team who have been with us for 30–40 years and who truly are masters of the art of fibrous plaster craft.

We hold the Bay of Plenty’s largest collection of fibrous plaster cornice moulds, ceiling centres, ceiling domes, columns, arches, fire surrounds and other forms of decorative fibrous plaster products.

If we do not have the exact piece or mould that you are looking for, we will gladly source it through one of our many expert suppliers nationwide – or have it made to match your sample.

Bay Interior Specialists has proudly been a longstanding member of the New Zealand Fibrous Plaster Association (NZFPA), the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries of New Zealand (AWCINZ), and we are proud Club GIB Installers.

We also foster a culture that highlights the health and safety of employees and clients, celebrating our membership with Site Safe for over 10 years Site Safe.

Stuart Phelps – Managing Director

As Managing Director, I personally guarantee to provide you with the best possible experience when dealing with a specialised trade. I believe that clear communication between the client and the trades is an integral part of a well-managed project. Whether your project is an extensive design build or a minor repair, you need to be informed throughout the process of start and completion times, best practices and materials for the specific conditions ,and many other factors that can influence the desired end result. We have an extremely capable team of managers and tradespeople to assist you in this process across each division.

Creating a culture of effective communication is a skill I have gained in my 18 years’ experience in cross-cultural communications and managing small businesses both in Japan and New Zealand. My time as representative on the Executive of the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries (AWCINZ) has given me great insight into the construction industry and fuelled my passion to learn from the industry’s best. My desire is to utilise this knowledge to strengthen the relationships with existing and future clients.

When I am not running the business I enjoy committing my time to family and friends. I am a dedicated husband and father of two enthusiastic children and enjoy instilling the values of a good work ethic, respect and integrity in their lives.
