Our Story

Tauranga Plasterers

Tauranga Plasterers Limited was established in 1963. The company was sold to David Martin in 1974 where it has stayed under his directorship until recently when the mantle of responsibility was passed to Stuart Phelps, ensuring that the Tauranga Plasterers Ltd remained a family business. We have been serving the Tauranga and Bay of Plenty region, providing quality finishing and professionalism in the installation and plastering of fibrous plaster and plasterboard systems through our strong team of certified tradesmen for almost 50 years.

Working with decorative fibrous plaster requires a meticulous attention to detail and highly skilled craftsmanship. There are members of our team who have been with us for 30 – 40 years and who truly are masters of the art of fibrous plaster craft.

We hold the Bay of Plenty’s largest collection of fibrous plaster cornice moulds, ceiling centres, ceiling domes, columns, arches, fire surrounds and other forms of decorative fibrous plaster products. If we do not have the exact piece or mould that you are looking for we will gladly source it through one of our many expert suppliers nationwide or have it made to match your sample.

Tauranga Plasterers Limited has proudly been a long-standing member of the New Zealand Fibrous Plaster Association (NZFPA) and the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries of New Zealand (AWCINZ) since the company’s inception. Over the years David has served as President for the NZFPA and also the AWCINZ, presently he is Regional Representative for the AWCINZ. Stuart Phelps (below) is currently the President of the AWCINZ.

Stuart Phelps - Managing Director/Project Manager

Stuart Phelps Tauranga PlasterersAs Managing Director, I personally guarantee to provide you with the best possible experience when dealing with a specialised trade. I believe that clear communication between the client and the trades is an integral part of a well-managed project. Whether your project is an extensive design build or a minor repair you need to be informed throughout the process of start and completion times, best practices and materials for the specific conditions and many other factors that can influence the desired end result.

Creating a culture of effective communication is a skill I have gained in my 18 years experience in cross cultural communications and managing small businesses both in Japan and New Zealand. My time as representative on the Executive of the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries (AWCINZ) has given me great insight into the construction industry and fuelled my passion to learn from the industries best. My desire is to utilise this knowledge to strengthen the relationships with existing and future clients.

When I am not running the business I enjoy committing my time to family and friends. I am a dedicated husband and father of two energetic children and enjoy instilling the values of a good work ethic, respect and integrity in their lives.
